On September 23, 1895, the first Colton High School class met with 35 students enrolled. Until 1903, Colton High School classes shared classrooms with the Lincoln School of Grammar as seen in the picture to the left. By 1903, the work began on the first official Colton High School building on the block between 2nd and 3rd Street. In 1905 the building was completed and consisted of one story with an eight-foot basement. Its final resting place was north of I Street (Valley Blvd) and east of 2nd Street (Dortha Cooley Lane). On September 20, 1909, at 8:30 am, Colton Union High School opened its doors to 93 students.
